How an insurance claim works with us
Most water damage jobs go through homeowner's insurance. Here's what happens, step by step, and what we take care of for you.
Step by step
From the first call to the final paperwork
Stop the damage first
Most policies expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent more damage. Call us right away. Emergency drying doesn't need to wait for an adjuster.
Open a claim with your insurance company
Call the claims number on your policy or app. Write down your claim number and your adjuster's name. Not sure what to say? Call us first and we'll walk you through it.
Sign a work authorization
Before we start, you'll sign a work authorization that explains what we're going to do. No surprises.
We document everything
Photos before and during the work, moisture readings and daily drying logs. This is what your adjuster needs to approve the claim.
We work with your adjuster
We send the estimate, written in Xactimate, the software most insurance companies use, and answer the adjuster's questions directly.
You pay your deductible
Your deductible is your part. The rest is handled according to your policy. We'll explain the numbers before the job is done.
Questions
Insurance questions we hear a lot
Should I call my insurance company or you first?
If water is still spreading, call us first so we can stop the damage. Then open the claim. Either order is fine, as long as the drying starts quickly.
Can I choose my own restoration company?
In most cases, yes. Your insurance company may suggest a company, but it's usually your choice who works in your home. If you're not sure, ask your adjuster.
Is my water damage covered?
Only your policy and your adjuster can say for sure. In general, sudden and accidental damage, like a burst pipe, is often covered. Gradual leaks, long-term moisture and outside flooding often aren't, unless you have flood insurance.
Will filing a claim raise my rates?
That depends on your insurance company, so it's a good question for your agent. If you're worried about it, we can give you the cost of the job so you can compare it with paying directly.
